2. HP & Lenovo for Gaming

If you are searching for the perfect gaming laptop that is less than $2000 and will be powerful enough to run the latest Triple-A games, Lenovo is just the brand for you.

There are Lenovo gaming laptops like the Ideapad L340 that you can get around $700. It is equipped with an impressive i5 processor with a memory size of 8GB RAM, a storage size of 512GB SSD, and runs a GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card.

Although it will not be able to run high-end games, it is powerful enough to play modern games in low-resolution settings. You will be able to play games like Fortnite, PUBG, Counter Strike, Call of Duty, and some popular ones.

If you are looking for something more powerful with a mid-range budget, you can go for the Lenovo Legion Y7000 that is equipped with an i7 processor and powered with a GeForce 1060 6GB dedicated graphics unit and supported with 16GB RAM.

To make it more appealing, it comes with a storage space of 256GB SSD and 1TB HDD that ensures that you have more than enough space to store your important documents.

And if you are looking for a high-end laptop, you can go for the Lenovo Legion Y740, which is around $2000 and is one of the top Dell gaming laptops that are powerful enough to handle any game.

As impressive as the Lenovo Legion Y740 appears, there is an HP laptop that is quite better, which is the HP Omen. This amazing laptop will cost you around $2000, and it’s packed with the top-level hardware that makes it perfect for playing games.

The laptop is equipped with an i7-9750H processor with a memory size of 64GB RAM, and you will have enough space to save your games because it sports a 2TB NVMe SSD + 2TB HDD and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 8GB graphics card to back it up.

Whether you are into programming, gaming, photo editing, or pretty much anything you want to do, this powerful machine can handle anything you throw at it. And to make it more exciting, it sports a 4k Ultra-HD IPS Display that produces life-like images that give you immersive gaming experience.

Maybe you are a professional gamer, and you are looking for the best gaming laptop that can handle AAA games, HP is the right one for you.

Winner: HP wins this round unless you are on a tight budget.

3. Business Laptops

If you are looking for a laptop for your business, and you are contemplating between HP and Lenovo, you should go with Lenovo. This is because Lenovo has a wide range of convertible laptops that are perfect for business purposes. A perfect example is the Lenovo Flex, and you can get t for just $600.

It is lightweight and portable, making it the perfect business partner for those that are always on the move. However, if you are searching for something high-end, you can check out the Lenovo Yoga 2020. It is powerful enough to handle anything that you throw it; you will be able to multitask efficiently.

In terms of business laptops, HP has the HP zBook with similar features as the Lenovo Yoga. It comes with some features that you can’t find in Lenovo Yoga, which includes a 4k display.

The specifications and the portability of the zBook make it perfect for business people. You will be able to run multiple programs and juggle in between numerous tabs without showing any issue.

However, Lenovo is better than HP in this category because it has more options when it comes to convertible laptops.

4. Chromebooks

If you are looking for a laptop for entertainment and general computing tasks, Chromebooks can be the right choice, but between Hp and Lenovo, which brand is better?

If you are interested in a convertible Chromebook, you should seriously consider the Lenovo C330. The laptop is quite portable and can work as a laptop and a tablet.

However, if you are looking for a more powerful laptop but not as portable as the C330, you should go for the Lenovo Yoga C630, it sports an impressive 8th generation i5 processor that is not common on Chromebooks, and it is supported with 8GB RAM and a storage capacity of 128GB eMMC.

Although it’s also convertible, but it is bulky and quite expensive, you will need to pay around $600.

HP Chromebooks are also impressive, and they offer value for money. They are the perfect combination of design, performance, and cost-effectiveness.

Most mid-budget and low budget HP Chromebooks like the Newest HP 14 comes with a Celeron Processor or AMD processor that is quite better than the MediaTek Processor that comes with the Lenovo Chromebooks.

The only significant drawback with the HP Chromebooks is that they are not convertible, which means you can’t use them as a tablet like Lenovo Chromebooks. However, they are still lightweight and portable enough to carry around.

When it comes to Chromebooks, HP is definitely the winner because they are more powerful. However, if you are looking for a portable Chromebook, you should go for Lenovo.

5. Design and Durability

In terms of design, Lenovo is quite impressive with the range of Legion laptops that are perfect for business and entertainment. The Yoga series are also stunningly built; for example, the Lenovo Yoga 720 is a beauty to behold.

The Yoga Book C930 comes with a beautiful design; it is lightweight, which makes it perfect for those that are always traveling.

However, there are some Lenovo models that come with basic designs. For example, the Lenovo V330 is definitely for people that do not care about appearance.

I checked other models like the Ideapad 530s, and the touchpad was not really responsive, also the Lenovo Felix 11” does not align completely. However, considering the price (usually less than $500), the drawbacks are actually negligible because the laptops will still be able to serve you for a long time.

The HP Spectre x360 is an amazing laptop with a stylish and attractive look. It comes in multiple designs, including golden accent aluminum, a Blue Poseidon that looks fantastic, and the Ash Gray design that is quite attractive.

And if you are not impressed with the Spectre series, you can check out the zBook model.  You will quickly fall in love with this one because it comes with chamfered rear edges that look really amazing.

The difference with HP is that they make sure that all their products are attractive, including the Chromebooks, unlike Lenovo. For example, the HP Chromebook X2 comes in a bold silvery color that is truly eye-catching.

The only issue with HP is that their models can be quite bulky. In addition, some of their high-end models are not equipped with the level of hardware that one will expect considering the price tag.

Overall, in terms of design and durability, HP laptops are more durable and attractive than Lenovo.

6. Innovation

In terms of innovation, HP is one of the top ones, and a good example is the HP Spectre Folio. Unlike most convertible or detachable laptops, the Folio comes with a leather material and a unique sturdy hinge that ensures that you can easily switch from one mode to another.

And if you are a gamer, I will recommend the Omen X2S because the machine is one of the few laptops that sport a secondary display that is basically designed for twitch streamers.

Another outstanding model is the Spectre x360 that is equipped with a kill-switch for the webcam. You can use this feature to instantly switch off the front camera if you want more privacy. Another innovation from HP that is worth mentioning is the SureScreenView that enhances image clarity.

Lenovo is another excellent company that is always looking for new ways to enhance productivity. For example, the Lenovo C930 is one of the few laptops that are equipped with an E-ink display.

It is lightweight, packed with a precision pen and a knock-to open feature that a lot of people will find interesting. It ensures that you can have quick and easy access to your laptop, and another notable feature that comes with this laptop is the Dolby Atmos soundbar placed in the right hinge.

The Lenovo Thinkpad series are also worth mentioning; the ThinkPad X1 is arguable the lightest 14-inch laptop that you will find in the market right now. And the most fascinating one is the recently launched foldable laptop that belongs to the ThinkPad X1 family. For more details about it, check out the video below.

When it comes to innovation, both brands are doing exceptionally well, and you can always go with anyone that you prefer.

7. Customer Support

Customer service is an important aspect that you need to consider before picking a laptop, and Hp really needs to work better in this area.

If you have any reason to contact the HP customer service, be prepared that it will take a while before you be attended to, which can be annoying, especially if it’s an urgent matter.

However, their online chat service and social media platforms are more encouraging.

They also have an awe-inspiring community page, and you will be able to connect with other customers that have experienced the same issue and have found a solution.

In terms of customer support, there is hardly any computer manufacturing company that can match Lenovo. There are three available options; you can either contact them through online chat, phone call, or email.

And if you visit their website, you will find a FAQ section and a Community page that you can easily use to find quick solutions to any issue.  And if you decide to call them, you won’t need to wait for long before you will be connected to a technician.

And the technician will ensure that the problem is fixed before ending the call. And if you want to use the email option, you can expect a quick and efficient reply.

When it comes to customer support, Lenovo is definitely the better brand.

The Verdict

I think the decision is quite clear. If you are interested in a high-end gaming laptop, one of the best that you can get right now is the HP Omen as long as you have the money. However, if you are looking for a cheaper gaming laptop, I will recommend the Lenovo Legion.

If you want a detachable or convertible laptop that will allow you to work in tight spaces like when you are on a bus, etc. you should consider Lenovo because they have a lot of convertible laptops that you can pick from.

In terms of design and durability, HP is the winner because the low-budget models of Lenovo do not have the sturdiness to last for years.

In conclusion, both brands offer a lot of fantastic options that you can pick from. It all depends on the type of components that you are looking for and how much you are willing to pay. Ensure that you do a thorough research before you pay for any brand.

Read reviews from customers that are already using the laptop so that you will have an idea of what to expect.
