High-definition multimedia interfaces or better known as HDMI, have recently become popular in sending videos or even audio signals to external monitors such as TVs.

Some people prefer PC high-definition multimedia interfaces, while the majority would instead use HDMI with HDTV sets.

High-definition multimedia interfaces can convey both audio and video in the same cable, and in a few instances, nothing else is required to transfer PC audio to the TV.

However, particular laptops or TVs require more cables or action to make the audio connection effective in a few cases.

In today’s post, I’ll show you the ways and steps you can follow to get sound from your laptop to your TV without any technical difficulty. Let’s dive straight into it.

How to Get Sound From Laptop to TV through HDMI

  1. Connect HDMI cable

The first step is to connect a high-definition multimedia interface from the HDMI output on your laptop to the TV set’s HDMI input. In case your TV offers the option of PC/HDMI, you can use it without any challenges. It would be best to route the signal properly from your laptop to an outside monitor using pressing FN and F5 simultaneously.

While you continue doing this, use the TV’s remote to control and set the Television to the right input so that you can view your favorite movie, series, etc. If you notice the audio is coming out from the TV speaker when you have begun viewing content, know that your connections have been successfully placed. But if the audio is still coming from the laptop, then know there is a loose end, and you need to fix it.

  2. Connect a 3.5mm stereo audio cable

The next step is to connect a 3.5mm stereo audio cable from the laptop’s line jack to the audio input jack, which should accompany PC/HDMI to the Television set. In case you notice that your TV features this option and the audio has not been delivered through the high-definition multimedia interface cable, you need to check where the problem might be.

After that, you need to make sure to connect the HDMI cable for video and then use the functions and performance that routes the signal to the outside monitor and then set the input on the TV. After doing this, the audio will be transferred to the TV as it would to a headphone.

  3. Audio settings

The third step is to right-click the volume control icon placed on the bottom taskbar. You then need to playback the device to allow the pop-up window to open for sound options. On the same playback device, click on digital output devices or the high definition multimedia interface, then click set default, then press the select button. This step is useful when you are using a straight HDMI to HDMI connection.

  4. Troubleshoot

In case you still cannot hear the audio through the TV’s speaker, check the volume, and ensure you have increased it through the laptop’s settings first, then the TVs. You will have completed the process to get sound transmitted from your laptop to your TV.
