Acer is popularly regarded as one of the top manufacturers of laptops and their components. Most laptop manufacturing companies have similar components, and Acer is no different. If you consider the type of hardware in similar categories from both brands, you will realize that they are quite similar.

Asus is another top manufacturer of laptops, desktop computers, and other electronic components. To be able to decide the better brand that represents value for money, there are important factors that we need to consider.

2. Components

I’ve realized that most laptops that are manufactured by Acer are equipped with dual-core processors, especially the low-budget models, while Asus laptops are always packed with quad-core processors.

Although dual cores are still powerful, they will not be able to handle most of the latest high-end apps and programs.

If you are into serious computing tasks like video editing, programming, or music production, you will realize that the required programs for these tasks will need high-end processors to run smoothly.

Acer laptops are also decent in terms of display features like screen size, HD, backlight, and screen resolution. These features are basically on the same level as what Asus laptops offer except the Acer Predator that sports a massive 21-inch curved screen with Tobii eye-tracking technology.

Just like I mentioned earlier, a lot of brands seem to use similar components, and there are few differences between Asus and Acer.

Asus models always sport quad-core processors regardless of the price range, which means you will have enough power to multitask.

The popular Asus ROG Zephyrus gaming laptop has some special features which include innovative hinges that make it possible for users to be able to view the screen accurately from any angle.

It also comes with an Nvidia Max-Q graphics card that works with the processor to prevent color shifts or other potential disruptions to your viewing performance.

Apart from those features, the rest of the components are quite similar. The model that you choose and your budget will determine the type of components that will be working on your laptop.

3. Design

In terms of design, Acer laptops are quite basic and unimpressive. They have a similar design for all the models, which is quite boring and looks heavy.

However, Acer has some decent color choices, but it does not compensate for the overall design.

Asus is doing quite well when it comes to design. They produce laptops that are rugged and durable while still making sure that they are attractive. Most of their laptops are built with metal casings which give them a professional and stylish look.

A perfect model that truly shows their design excellence is the ROG Zephyrus. It is an ultra-slim, stunning, lightweight machine.

Gaming laptops can be quite bulky, especially the high-end ones, but the ROG Zephyrus has proved that you can produce a lightweight laptop that will be powerful enough to handle the latest AAA games.

4. Product variety

The company has a wide range of laptops that you can choose from. They have all the types and their prices. Whether you are looking for a cheap one or an expensive one, Acer has it covered with an impressive selection in each range.

Whether you are looking for an Acer Windows laptop, a gaming laptop, a Chromebook, or a convertible (2-in-1) laptop, no matter the budget, you will definitely find an Acer laptop that will suit your need.

In terms of variety, Asus has a lot of great laptops that you can choose. Although, not as many models as Acer, they do have enough for each category.

The company has an impressive lineup of Windows laptops, Chromebooks, convertible laptops, and they also have laptops for gaming. You can trust them for all your computing needs, and their gaming laptops are good enough to match the top ones when it comes to customer satisfaction.

5. Price

Acer offer great prices: it all depends on what you are looking for and your budget. Some people have complained that the prices of some of their models do not justify the hardware.

For example, the price of the Acer Predator that is specifically designed for gamers is almost the double of a similar laptop from other brands. The only notable difference is that it comes with a massive screen, but the performance level does not justify the price.

For the same price, you will be able to get a few adapters and connect a cheaper gaming laptop to your TV screen and enjoy your favorite games.

Asus have laptops in all price ranges, and their prices are similar to that of Acer. And let me remind you that Asus laptops are equipped with quad-core processors, which means you will be getting more value for your money.

6. Support

For years, Acer has been known to always provide excellent customer service. However, this no longer seems to be the case. The company has received several awards for its superb innovation and design, but some of their customers are not impressed with the support service.

A lot of people have complained that most of their technicians are unable to fix issues. Some customers have complained that they are always being disturbed to pay for an upgraded support service level.

Some customers have posted remarks online about the performance of their laptops. They report that their laptops have become very slow to use, while some have reported that they are unable to locate their laptop after sending it to the company for repair.

An excellent customer support service is one of the important factors that will decide whether you should go with a brand or not, and these issues that have been reported can be quite discouraging.

In terms of customer support, Asus is still similar to Acer. The website is difficult to use, and you will be asked to sign up before you can find any support.

The telephone option is also not encouraging: a lot of customers have complained that it takes hours before you will be able to speak with any technician. Some customers have also reported that they could not trace or recover their laptops after sending them to the company for repair.

7. Innovation

In terms of innovation, Acer is definitely one of the top ones, and the famous 21-inch Predator is the perfect example. The Predator is arguably the largest laptop that you can find right now, and it is perfect for a lot of computing tasks.

Acer laptops are known to be rugged and durable: the company has also managed to produce a good range of machines that represents value for money.  In 2018, the company was awarded the Taiwan Excellence 2018 and CES 2018 Innovations Honoree awards.

When it comes to innovation, Asus is among the top ones with excellent innovative ideas. The famous ROG Zephyrus shows that the company has a world-class team that is dedicated to finding new ways to make life more comfortable.

Another brilliant feature that is worth mention is the intuitive hinges that allow better viewing angles. The company has designed numerous attractive and performance powered laptops, and it’s nice to know that some of these laptops are in the lower budget category.

8. Where they stand out

The Acer’s variety definitely makes them unique, they have a lot of models on offer, and you will always see a perfect one that will be able to meet your computing needs regardless of your budget.

They also stand out when it comes to producing laptops that will last for years. They might not be attractive, but they will withstand time and usage.

Asus is definitely unique with their designs, they are elegantly built, and you will easily fall in love with them, even the cheap ones are built to look expensive.

When they released the lightweight gaming laptop equipped with the latest hardware, they proved to the laptop industry and everyone that their designs have an impact.

9. Awards

Acer has received numerous awards over the years for its excellence: the company received the most recent one in 2019 from Red Dot Design Award 2019. The company was awarded for producing world-class laptops, which include the RGO, the Acer VGO, VL7 Ultra HD series, and the C2 Series.

In the same year, the company was also awarded the iF Design Award for its Swift 7, Predator Triton 700, the famous Predator Orion 9000, Acer Aspire S 24, and Predator X27 and Holo 360.

Asus has received several awards over the years, with the ROG gaming series bringing in the majority of the prizes. However, some customers that are using Windows and the Chromebooks of the brand are not impressed.

It has also affected their sales because a lot of customers are dumping their models for other brands.

Which is better Asus or Acer?

Although both brands have a lot of similarities, they also have some differences that are with mentioning.

Acer has a wide range of laptops, while Asus has fewer models with better designs. In terms of performance, Asus seems to be better than Acer.

When it comes to gaming, Asus is very close to leading Acer.

When to Choose Acer?

Acer gives you a lot of options to choose from: you will be provided with an enormous selection of great laptops. The company has a lot of options for each price range, and you will definitely find one that will be perfect for you. If you are looking for a computer that can handle simple computing tasks, then you should check out Acer’s Chromebook series.

In addition, if you do not care about appearance, Acer is the right one for you.

When to Choose Asus?

If you are a professional gamer, or maybe you love streaming videos in high resolution, Asus is the right choice for you. You can’t go wrong with their award-winning ROG series.

If you are looking for a laptop with a fantastic design that is aesthetically pleasing, you should go for Asus.

If you are not willing to spend much and you need a laptop that is good enough to handle general computing tasks, Asus will provide you with a lot of options and do not forget that all their laptops are equipped with quad-core processors.

Final Thoughts

Just like other laptop manufacturing companies, both Acer and Asus have their strengths and weaknesses. In the end, they offer some decent laptops, and they have ranges that are available to everyone.

Both companies need to work on their customer support system. If you find yourself using any of the brands, that’s the only significant challenge that you will face. You might be part of the lucky customers that won’t need to contact them at all.

Overall, it all comes down to your computing needs and your budget. Also, I will advise you to conduct in-depth research on the brand and the model you want to buy before you pay for it.

Nobody wants to spend their hard-earned money on a machine that will not be useful.

  1. I bought a asus vivoflip book 3 years ago. The cpu fan already needs to be replaced. When I took it to a repair shop they opened it to find a few cables were being held in place via tape. Regular clear tape. A cable was snapped off the motherboard when they tried to pull the tape up and now the computer is garbage. I also bought a acer computer for my son the same year. It’s still running and has never had any hardware issues. Im not convinced asus are quality computers after this experience

    • Thank you for sharing your experience, Leanne!

It makes sense if it was a refurbished laptop. Otherwise, I think you should look for another repair shop next time – the issue doesn’t sound realistic.
