Those looking to choose between the two brands can find it hard to decide. In the past few decades, both of these brands have become more popular as they have been around for a while.

Choosing between Acer and ASUS laptops will determine which brand is best for most people.

Thus, in this article, I’ll compare both brands and give my honest evaluation of which is better.

About Acer

Acer, a company founded in 1976, is a pretty old company for laptops. Based in Taiwan, it enjoys a high trust rating among its users. Aside from selling laptops, the brand also manufactures and sells computers, tablets, etc.

They are stated to work very fast and smoothly on all electronic items. The company has also gained a good customer base and provided great customer service over the years. They are highly regarded for laptops and PCs and are one of the most well-known brands worldwide.

About Asus

Asus, a Taiwanese electronics brand, entered the computer hardware market in 1989. In the electronic device market, Asus stands out as a strong competitor. In comparison to Acer, it has a slightly different product line.

Apart from manufacturing laptops, tablets, Asus also manufactures motherboards, graphics cards, etc. Due to the large customer base, Asus has been quite successful in whatever it sells.

Many consumers expect excellent quality from the products they purchase from Asus. The company has accumulated a good deal of customer trust over the years. Therefore, you can also rely on Asus for your laptop needs.

Acer vs Asus Comparison

It is better to choose ASUS over Acer because of performance, design, and customer support. The price is where Acer beats ASUS. Also, ASUS offers various options for those seeking gaming laptops.

The two aren’t too different, and there’s more similarity between them than difference. ASUS and Acer are both Taiwanese companies headquartered in Taipei.

In size, ASUS and Acer are pretty similar. Also, most people might not know that former Acer employees founded ASUS.

Gaming Laptops

You should choose an ASUS laptop over an Acer laptop if you’re considering purchasing a gaming laptop. Several great gaming laptops have recently been made by ASUS, such as the ASUS Rog Zephyrus.

Powered by Intel i7 core processors, this is a high-end machine. It offers a larger, full HD screen, which really can’t be beaten by other high-end laptops. Laptops from ASUS have a reputation for being excellent choices for gamers on a budget. So, ASUS gaming laptops can be the best option for those who need a lot of RAM and power.

Business Laptops

Business users rarely care about price when it comes to productivity, where Asus shines. Acer offers quite a few good laptops in this category with its Swift and Spin series. Another great convertible laptop by Acer for business users is the ConceptD 3.

In contrast to the Swift and Spin series, Asus’ ZenBook and Zephyrus series seem to be more appealing laptops. Acer ConceptD 3 offers excellent performance and good competitiveness against Asus. However, I believe Asus offers more business-oriented laptops.

Studying Laptops

When it comes to everyday tasks and studying, ASUS is the best choice. Consider the ASUS Chromebook if you need something to carry around that is lightweight and portable while still incredibly powerful for studying. Chromebooks are becoming increasingly popular for their entertainment capabilities, including a Full-HD display.

On the other hand, the Acer Chromebook Spin 311 is also an excellent Chromebook that you can choose for your studying. However, the display is small, and the screen is not as bright as possible. The Acer Chromebook and ASUS Chromebook have decent RAM and ample storage space; however, ASUS wins here thanks to its better screen.

Budget Laptops

Most Acer laptops are more affordable than Asus laptops. The good thing about these is that they are often cheaper, perfect for those on a budget. However, Asus also presents some affordable laptops offering a great balance of price and performance.

Also, ASUS tends to offer a wider selection of products, so you have the option of selecting a variety of laptops to suit your needs. In conclusion, I would recommend Acer laptops to anyone looking for a laptop at a budget-friendly price.

Design

The product’s design can also vary based on the price range that you are aiming for. Asus is slightly ahead of Acer in terms of the overall design but by a very narrow margin.

For instance, you’ll find that most of the notebooks by Acer are designed similarly if you check their budget-friendly models. Laptops made by Acer are constructed using casings that will fit into various laptop configurations.

Acer seems to focus a lot of effort on making their laptops affordable. On the other hand, Asus puts a lot of emphasis on design, even with their affordable laptops.

Nonetheless, the comparison between Acer’s Aspire series and Asus’s VivoBook series illustrates that it is not always true. In truth, neither series stands out as superior to the other simply due to its basic design. The design also involves varying buyer preferences.

Besides, Acer offers a better design than Asus on its higher-end laptops. Check out, for example, the Zephyrus M15 by Asus and the Predator 300 by Acer. However, I find the Acer Predator’s design superior to the Asus Zephyrus M15. Some people prefer the design of the Zephyrus M15 over the Predator 300, and that is a matter of personal preference.

On the whole, however, I would say that Asus has a more appealing design in terms of their entire lineup than Acer. However, it all depends on your taste and budget.

Build Quality & Hardware

In terms of hardware, Asus offers a wide range of options. Their laptop designs are unique and expressive, but they do not sacrifice build quality in the process.

Innovation is one of the core values of the Asus design team. It is worth mentioning that they manufacture their laptops with metal cases, specifically aluminum; this means they are more durable.

On the other hand, Acer prefers a more traditional aesthetic in design, so their laptops all look the same. The build quality of Acer laptops is also very good. However, most Acer laptops tend to use plastics in their build. The Acer Chromebook 13 is an exception, as it has an aluminum chassis and hinges.

With few exceptions, both brands offer similar display features. As a result of their innovation and durability, ASUS wins in terms of build quality and hardware. In addition, Asus has the advantage of cooling systems since each of its laptops comes with a liquid-cooling module.

Performance

It is hard to say which one of these companies performs better than the other. These two companies both offer a variety of laptops, from high-end gaming laptops to basic laptops at budget prices.

Consequently, the performance of your laptop depends on what you need and how much you want to spend. Consider, for example, the gaming lineups of these two brands. For example, Asus offers the Zephyrus M15, a high-end laptop featuring a powerful i7-10750H processor.

This laptop also features 16GB of DDR4 RAM, 1TB of PCIe SSD, and GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q with 8GB of video memory. As a rival, Acer has the Acer Predator gaming laptop, popular among gamers.

An Acer Predator Helios 300 laptop with an Intel i7-10750H processor and 16 GB of RAM runs the 10th generation of Intel’s processor line. In addition to this 1 TB SSD, the laptop features a GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q graphics card paired with 8GB RAM.

It is unlikely that either of these laptops will differ significantly in performance.  These laptops are similar in that they share similar components, which deliver performance. Therefore, how can someone claim that the i7-10750H will deliver better performance on the Zephyrus M15 than the Predator Helios 300?

Each of these manufacturers has a wide range of products that can satisfy almost any requirement. When looking for a laptop, the range of choices you have is vast, whether you’re searching for a budget laptop or an expensive gaming laptop.

As far as performance goes, I’d say that the scores are tied. Acer and Asus are both excellent options in terms of performance, but the specs you choose are more important than the brand.

Durability

There is no doubt that durability is an essential aspect of owning a laptop, especially a highly sophisticated one. If you spend lots of money on the products and then they are destroyed within a week, you will regret it.

Therefore, Asus tests its products for durability under military standards to ensure they are durable enough. Asus laptops are subjected to several tests to ensure they are as durable as possible, including temperature tests, hinge tests, etc.

On the other hand, the laptops from Acer are also designed to be durable for a long time. Their design ensures they can withstand any challenge related to durability.

Acer laptops are designed so that you will not be disappointed with their durability after a year or two. So, in terms of durability, both Asus and Acer are equally well-performing.

Customer Service & Warranty

The ASUS customer service department is much better than that of Acer.  Additionally, you get a pretty comprehensive warranty when you buy an ASUS laptop that should cover any problems that you have had with it for a pretty long time.

Compared with all the big laptop brands, ASUS’s support is probably average. The support isn’t as good as Apple, but it’s better than others. On the other hand, Acer’s customer service is not that good. Trying to resolve your problem over the phone can take a long time and result in nothing being accomplished.

I was once made to pay to ship my old Acer Aspire laptop to them to get it fixed – perhaps that’s why Apple has gained such popularity today. For most of its products, Acer offers a 1-year warranty. However, you will also get a 2-year warranty with more expensive models. If you want to get an extended warranty, you can purchase additional coverage.

  1. I bought a asus vivoflip book 3 years ago. The cpu fan already needs to be replaced. When I took it to a repair shop they opened it to find a few cables were being held in place via tape. Regular clear tape. A cable was snapped off the motherboard when they tried to pull the tape up and now the computer is garbage. I also bought a acer computer for my son the same year. It’s still running and has never had any hardware issues. Im not convinced asus are quality computers after this experience

    • Thank you for sharing your experience, Leanne!

It makes sense if it was a refurbished laptop. Otherwise, I think you should look for another repair shop next time – the issue doesn’t sound realistic.
